A study shows that well-regulated sleep is able to regulate hunger and satiety hormones

Losing weight doesn’t just mean eating little, that is, you need to follow a physical exercise routine and adequate hydration. As well as maintaining a good sleep. The study available in the electronic journal JAMA Internal Medicine highlights the role of sleep in weight loss. This highlighted evidence that increasing 6 to 7 hours of sleep can influence weight loss.




Increased from 6 to 7 hours of sleep

The purpose of this research was based on determining the effects of a sleep extension intervention on assessed energy intake. On energy expenditure and body weight in real-life settings among obese adults who have reduced sleep duration.

Therefore, this research brought together 80 adults between the ages of 21 and 40 with a BMI (body mass index) between 25 and 29.9 (overweight). And with a sleep duration of less than 6.5 hours per night.

Subsequently, with a common sleep rhythm two weeks after the start of this analysis, the participants had an individualized session. To increase bedtime to 8.5 hours, the class is called an extension group. And to continue with their usual sleep, team defined as control group.

Results

The researchers found that sleep duration increased by 1.2 hours per night in the extension group compared to the control group. Which suffered a significant decrease in energy intake compared to the rival group.

Change in sleep duration was inversely associated with change in energy intake. They found no effect of the treatment on total energy expenditure. What influenced the weight loss of the extension group compared to the control group.

Finally, they also said that maintaining healthy sleep for long periods is part of the work to prevent obesity and weight loss, as well as impacting eating behavior.
