Review: Aaron Gordon’s Chinese sneakers surprise with their comfort

361 Degrees AG4, the fourth shoe designed by Aaron Gordon, champion of the Denver Nuggets, brings very interesting cushioning and traction technologies to the field

Aaron Gordon was a key player in the Denver Nuggets’ NBA title in 2023 and continues to be one of the team’s mainstays. And his latest and fourth sneaker signed by the Chinese brand 361 Degrees follows the solidity of this path already paved with victories. 361 has no official stores in Brazil, but is represented in the country by hoopssports.com.br, which sells the AG4 for R$799.90.

The AG4’s upper has a technological fabric with various designs designed to follow the movement of the foot or double the resistance in impact zones, such as the toe. It’s very similar to Jordan’s leno fabric, but is softer and has a less synthetic feel. The plastic overlays on top of the fabric are less refined than Gordon’s other sneakers, a decision made for durability that didn’t make the sneaker ugly, but made it less chic.

The heel, in turn, has extra rigid protection and bears the writing 0T 1.7 which pays homage to the 2022 game in which Gordon scored the game-winning triple against the Clippers with 1.7 seconds left in the match. Next to it is a very soft yellow fabric backing on the inside which follows the same quality for the lining and tongue, which features Gordon’s signature. If the plastic of the upper is not chic, the interior and the tongue of the model make up for it by being very chic.

This set makes the AG4 adapt very well to the foot, being one of the most comfortable TTS (True To Size). Cushioning is provided by a giant layer of Quickfoam, a 361 technology that is very similar to Adidas’ Boost and makes the sneakers absurdly comfortable. Lightweight and responsive without being spongy, this cushioning feels ideal for all types and weights of players.

To stay on the court, the AG4 has a medium grip outsole suitable for both indoor and outdoor courts, with a multi-directional herringbone traction very similar to that of the Jordan 34. There is also the brand’s Soar system which is a soleplate made of nylon and carbon fiber which helps stabilize the foot and push rebounds.

The plate is for less than 100kg

For players weighing over 100kg, this stabilization plate does start to tear after a while and tire the foot a little, but nothing a hydration stop can’t fix. And for those who even casually wear basketball sneakers, like me, the comfort of these sneakers and the fact that they are still unknown in the country will bring a lot of curiosity to the streets, fueling the sneaker swag bar to the max.
