Common battery x rechargeable battery: do you know the difference?

The Elgin specialist talks about the best model and explains which model is suitable based on the need

Stacks These are generating devices capable of transforming chemical energy into electrical energy. They are very present in our routines, being widely used to allow the operation of different devices without the need to connect to an electrical network. But do you know which model is best suited for each use?

As similar as they are, the models have unique features that make a difference in use. To learn the best way to use them and help consumers achieve satisfactory performance, Douglas Muniz, a battery specialist and product manager from Elgin, explains the main differences between common batteries and rechargeable batteries so you can choose the best option. Look down:

Common batteries

Also known as dry or zinc batteriesare recommended for equipment that they require light and continuous electrical dischargesthat is, they consume little energy, like the remote control, clock or flashlights. Top tip: According to Muniz, the mix of batteries also influences their lifespan and performance quality. “When you change them, replace them all at the same time and always use the same type and model. Using different types, mixing alkaline and common, can not only make the battery last less, but can also cause leaks and dirt,” he explains.

Rechargeable batteries

The use of this type of product is suitable for devices that consume a lot of energy and require battery replacement in a short time. People who use mouse, wireless keyboard, camera flash and toys, for example, need these objects always loaded and ready to be used. Therefore, they are the most appropriate option due to their cost and because they are ecologically better. “The NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) model is the most used rechargeable battery, as it is the most durable, has a greater charging capacity, also does not contain cadmium and does not develop the memory effect, also known as an old battery”, he explains Elgin’s product manager.

What is the main difference between a common battery and a rechargeable battery?

As the name suggests, the rechargeable battery can be recharged several times by connecting to the mains. However, after a certain number of uses, it is necessary to discard it as it loses its effectiveness. High-endurance models have the ability to recharge 1000 times. The common battery, in turn, comes with a factory charge and must be disposed of immediately once its energy is depleted.

How to dispose of batteries correctly?

It is always good to reinforce the disposal of batteries, since some of them contain toxic substances (metals) in their composition, which can have a negative impact on the environment if they are not disposed of correctly. Some companies, shops and even buildings already collect batteries and dispose of them properly. It is the consumer’s responsibility to look for places that carry out this type of collection.

In general it is important to pay attention to the choice of battery to avoid future problems. This ensures the safety of the consumer and the quality of the chosen toy. “Pay attention to the instructions and assembly of the toys, which must always be accompanied by an adult, as they can, in some cases, cause serious health risks for the little ones”, concludes Douglas Muniz.
