Find out how to buy better quality olive oils in supermarkets
Olive oil is one of the most used products in the kitchen, both to create recipes from scratch and simply to accompany more elaborate dishes and salads.
But do you know how to choose a quality olive oil? In an interview with Paladar live on Facebook, Arnaldo Comin, from the Rua do Alecrim emporium, gave advice on how to choose the perfect product at the supermarket.
According to him, acidity is indeed important as many consumers believe, but it is not everything and must be observed along with other aspects.
See tips for choosing the perfect olive oil:
- Consider whether the place where the olive oil is bottled is the same place where it is produced. Taking the product into barrels to be bottled elsewhere can oxidize the oil, as well as causing other organoleptic losses;
- Look for the manufacturing date or vintage and expiration date on the label. In Brazil, manufacturers are not required to indicate the production date, but only the expiry date, which is generally two years after production;
- If you buy olive oil that is nearing its expiration date, it has been produced for almost two years and will likely no longer have its fresh aromas and flavors. Therefore the younger the olive oil, the better. Always give priority to products from the latest harvest.
