Instead of jewelry, Lula features artisanal Brazilian cheeses

To crown the week of intense love between Brazil and France, Lula gave Macron a box of six artisanal Brazilian cheeses. In the love story between the two heads of state, who paraded together in recent days, the French received the final stroke of seduction: genuinely traditional and original cheeses from our country.

No, Macron did not receive any cheese “like” a French recipe, since we have many of them in supermarkets, but he will delight himself with the Brazilian family farmed cheeses, chosen by the cheesemakers Sandra and Rosanna, from Brasilia, who delivered the cheese the kit possible.

As a French Brazilian, I melted like a raclette. Those elected were the following six producers, five of which are associated with SerTãoBras:

  • Guilherme from Produtos Goa, from Aiuruoca-MG,
  • Henrique, of Rancho Maranata, Virginia-MG,
  • Airton, from Serra das Antas Dairyof the city of Bueno Brandão-MG;
  • Cecilia and Marcus, from Fazenda São Victor, Ilha de Marajó, in Pará,
  • and Bento, from Pardinho Artesanal, city of the same name, in São Paulo.

One of France’s long-standing demands is that Brazil, the world’s 5th largest milk producer, stop using the names of cheeses protected by European designations of origin, the famous “comté-type” or “camembert-type” cheeses.

I think Macron, who didn’t expect it, will understand that our artisanal dairy diversity is proud to use the names of our villages, islands and mountains. And respecting this part of the Mercosur agreement, i.e. no longer using European names on cheeses, will be easy.

European cheeses are wonderful, obviously, an inspiration. Many of them, the most symbolic ones such as French Roquefort and Swiss Gruyère, have already confirmed their presence at the Brazilian Cheese World Cup. The event, which will take place from 11 to 14 April at the B32 Theater, on Avenida Faria Lima, in Sao Paulo, will place the best of each country side by side. Less to intensify competition, more to celebrate diversity.

It is an unmissable meeting, including tastings, shows and conferences, to introduce consumers to their producers, these rural heroes who fight the daily battle to increase the value of milk.
