Arraial d’Ajuda had global importance. In the national ranking, mountain cities such as São Bento do Sapucaí, Visconde de Mauá and Gonçalves attract attention
Arraial d’Ajuda, in Bahia, was voted the friendliest destination in the world by the 12th edition of the Traveler Review Awards. Booking.com’s annual awards recognize travel providers from 221 countries and territories for their commitment to hospitality and excellence throughout the year. It is the first time that a Brazilian city has topped the world rankings. The destination, which is part of Brazil’s Route of Discovery, earned the title thanks to more than 309 million verified customer reviews.
Although nearby Porto Seguro can be quite hectic, Arraial of Ajuda is the opposite. Famous for its calm and serene environment, the village has colorful houses scattered around the historic Nossa Senhora d’Ajuda church, one of the oldest in Brazil. The city streets are also home to numerous boutiques, restaurants and bars. See a complete destination guide.

The platform also carried out a separate survey on the friendliest destinations in Brazil besides Arraial d’Ajuda. In this case it is worth noting that most of the places are new to the list, i.e. they were not among the most welcoming last year. That’s it São Bento do Sapucaí, He frowns, Gonçalves, Arrows, Marau, Wedge AND Nova Petropolis.
“This shows not only how these regions are developing their tourism facilities, but also that tourists recognize these efforts and rate suppliers in these locations very positively,” says Nelson Benavides, regional director of Booking.com in Brazil.
