The project, which is ongoing, is counting on the partnership of craft breweries to move the region
With the aim of revitalizing Rua Carioca, which belongs to the Historic Center of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the municipality launched the “Rua da Cerveja” project, with the aim of reopening shops and attracting craft breweries, making the place a busy route for drink lovers.
The initiative offers temporary financial support to facilities interested in participating, including amounts for monthly expenses and renovations. Breweries, however, must meet certain specifications, such as producing and selling their own beer, operating at nights and weekends, and offering activities for the public.
According to news site Enfoco, 13 breweries have so far expressed interest in establishing a partnership and signed the agreement last Wednesday (27).
The Municipal Department for Development, Employment and Innovation predicts that the Rua da Cerveja project has the potential to generate jobs in the region and move a significant amount of capital within a four-year period. The initiative also includes improvements to road infrastructure, such as the widening of sidewalks, the installation of street furniture and new lighting.
