Anti-menopause injection: is the treatment to combat menopause effective?

A North American company is developing a drug that promises to pause the transition period of a woman’s reproductive phase

Summary

The company Oviva Therapeutics has developed an anti-menopause injection to delay menopause and improve the quality of life of women. Available treatments for menopause offer relief from symptoms and improve cardiovascular health.

The North American company Oviva Therapy is working on a treatment that promises to be able to “brake” the climacteric, the physiological transition from the reproductive to the non-reproductive period in women, which includes menopause.

Presented at a conference on longevity in Florida (USA), the “anti-menopause injection” is still in the testing phase but, according to Daisy Robinton, CEO of Oviva, if it works, it will be able to guarantee a better quality of life for women. women living in the climate zone.

The injection is made of a synthetic hormone similar to anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), which is associated with the production of reproductive cells. The gynecologist specializing in climatic women’s health, André Vinícius, explains that HAM is a protein produced by the granulosa cells of the ovarian follicles with which the woman is born.

“During her life, a woman only loses follicles, she does not form new ones. So the idea of the anti-menopause injection would be to maintain this number of follicles for longer or to increase this number of follicles a little more,” comments the specialist.

According to the gynecologist, although at first glance it seems like a promising idea, there is still a lot to analyze, since it is only a hypothesis that has not been confirmed even in animal models.

«Perhaps the most tangible thing would be a vaccine capable of reducing oxidative stress, which causes the excessive loss of ovarian follicles, and thus try to delay the arrival of menopause a little. But this phenomenon, unfortunately until now, is inevitable, sooner or later it comes to all women”, observes the professional.

Treatments available for menopause

One lsurvey conducted by the Brazilian Climate Society (Sobrac), surveying approximately 1,500 women aged between 45 and 65, found that only 22.3% of them had received a medical recommendation to undergo hormone treatment and decided to do so. One of the main reasons is the lack of information about the real benefits and risks of hormone replacement.

“There are still many myths about hormone treatment, many patients come to the office worried about gaining weight or developing breast cancer. But there are several scientific studies that demonstrate that the risks of those who appropriately take hormone replacement therapy are practically the same as those who do not take hormone therapy, depending on the choice of the combination of replacement hormones”, explains the specialist. .

The doctor explains that hormone replacement therapy during menopause can relieve symptoms such as hot flashes and insomnia, prevent osteoporosis and improve cardiovascular health. In addition to these signs, it also helps in other lesser-known manifestations, such as dry eyes, memory deficits for recent events, urinary tract infections, abdominal distension, weight gain and digestive problems.
