How to get rid of an unpleasant smell in the toilet: 10 simple tips

Pods that dispense toilet disinfectant and clean discs are the easiest way to eliminate unpleasant odors. The gel allows you to no longer touch the pendant box: simply attach the syringe-shaped dispenser to the surface, and a gel disc will appear under the rim. The capsule is simply enough to be placed in the tank – its resource is usually enough for hundreds of flushes.

Cleaning the toilet bowl and walls eliminates bacteria whose waste causes the appearance of an unpleasant odor. But why not wash the toilet every day? Hydrogen peroxide can help you avoid this: simply pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on the bowl every night before you go to bed – it only takes a few seconds.

Another easy way to add pleasant scents to your toilet is to use essential oils to scent a roll of toilet paper: before hanging a new roll, apply a few drops to the inside of the cardboard. You can repeat this procedure when you run out of paper and throw the pouch in the trash – this way it will continue to work there.

We all know that we need to clean the toilet, but we forget that the tank, where the water is constantly located, can also become a source of musty smell. Pour a glass of nine percent white vinegar there, wait 10 minutes, walk along the walls with a brush, then press the flush button – and you may no longer need to use toilet deodorant.

Using a special air freshener can replace baking soda toilet bombs. Add a quarter cup of citric acid, 20 to 40 drops of your favorite essential oil and three to four tablespoons of water to a glass of baking soda – you should get wet sand that you can hold with your fingers.

Squeeze the mixture into silicone ice cube trays, let dry overnight, then transfer to a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Throw two or three bombs on the toilet when you want to freshen it: let it fizz for 10 minutes, then flush. (Perfectionists can, after dissolving the capsule, go along the sides of the bowl with a paintbrush.)

Absorbents are a great way to create “zero” odor (in other words, simply eliminate all unpleasant odors, leaving the air clean). “You’ve probably heard that a bowl of baking soda or a canvas bag filled with activated charcoal helps if your refrigerator smells. The same principle applies to the toilet: simply place an opened sachet of bicarbonate there. If desired, add 10 to 15 drops of essential oil,” advises professional cleaner Lily Cameron.

Using an automatic deodorizing system won’t help if there is a source of unpleasant odor in the toilet, and there will be one! Everything that ends up in the trash: used towels, dirty toilet paper, sanitary napkins. You can use baking soda to absorb the “aromas” they give off: just pour half a cup into the trash.

Sansevieria, spathiphyllum and chlorophytum can do more than just decorate your home. As NASA discovered, these houseplants are champions of air purification, so why not place one or two in your bathroom?

What if we told you that you can clean your toilet every day and it won’t take more than 10 seconds? It is enough to buy a pack of special disinfectant wipes, put on gloves every evening, take one and wipe the earthenware – and there will be no chance of an unpleasant odor!

Do you have half a lemon left and you don’t know what to do with it? Use it instead of a sponge to scrub the toilet: the citrus will leave a fresh smell, and if you wait a few hours before flushing, it will also remove plaque. You can try another trick: put sliced ​​​​fruit, two tablespoons of coarse salt and a tablespoon of soda in an old sock or “solitary”, then place it in the tank.
