Starting April 25, Projeto Luz na Tela will screen films for free every month
Attention, cinephiles: the Museum of the Portuguese language In St. Paul , will now have an open-air cinema. With free entry, the project Light on the screen will hold sessions once a month in the museum’s courtyard B, which is located in the same building as the Light Station. To participate you don’t need a ticket, just arrive!
The first film will be screened on Thursday 25 April, at 7.30 pm, with popcorn and water distributed. The film chosen for the inaugural session was Lights in the city, in honor of Charles Chaplin’s 135th birthday. The classic released in 1931 follows a misfit who pretends to be a millionaire to win over a blind flower girl.
The next sessions of the project should follow a different proposal. This is because the new venture of Museum of the Portuguese language is a partnership with Sovereign Museum inaugurated in March in Rua do Triunfo, which hosts exhibitions on “Boca do Lixo”.
In this way, the goal of Light on the screen is to enhance the independent production of Ozualdo Candeias, José Mojica Marins, Rogério Sganzerla and other independent directors who produced films and distinguished themselves between 1960 and 1980.
The programming of Light on the screen will be published on the website of the Museum of the Portuguese Language and on the institution’s social networks: Instagram, Facebook AND Twitter.
Garbage mouth“Boca do Lixo” is how the ancient cinema hub between the neighborhoods of Luz, Santa Ifigênia and Campos Elíseos, in the center of São Paulo, has become known. To facilitate the transportation of films, international film production companies were established in the region near railways and highways in the early 20th century. The region has become a center for low-budget productions and a lot of creative freedom. It was at the Bar Soberano that the artists met to decide how the films would be made. |
