Holidays: Experts give advice for those traveling on a high dollar

Those planning to travel overseas this year are now dealing with a bucket of cold water – the dollar is back on an upward trajectory this month. On Friday, July 1, the dollar was trading at R $ 5.33, the highest rate in five months. Both out-of-country costs and ticket prices are affected by appreciation. Experts give advice on how to save when you get high.

How to save when buying dollars?

According to financial educator Aline Soaper, the ideal is to buy the dollar over time: “On average you can get lower values, because there will be days and months when the dollar price will be lower, in others higher. What many people do is wait for the “perfect time” to buy the dollar at the best rate, but that moment may not happen. The ideal, therefore, is to buy gradually ”, explains Soaper.

For example, if a person plans to go on a trip that they know will cost $ 1,000, they can spread it over 10 months and buy $ 100 dollars a month. Eventually, she will get the amount she needs, with the lowest average value, than if she had expected to buy the full amount in one day.

If you have 4 months to buy, you can buy every week of the month, during those months, to save by paying that average amount.

Why are airline tickets so expensive?

Luiz Moura, founding partner of Voll, a platform for mobility and corporate travel, explains that today about 30% of the value of the air ticket is linked to the cost of fuel and that the conflict in Russia and its consequences were the main reasons for the increase in air fares: “From January to early June, for example, aircraft fuel increased by 64.3%, according to the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear). The change in the dollar also interferes with prices, but it is not the only or the main factor that determines the increase ”.

Furthermore, the pandemic also has an impact on the increase: “It is also important to note that we have experienced a two-year pandemic, which has directly affected the aviation sector, and which is now unable to absorb these costs more without incurring major losses. Therefore, if the price of fuel goes up an hour or another, the airlines have to pass this cost increase on to their final consumers ”.

How to save on the purchase of airline tickets?

“My main suggestion is that the user be attentive and try to act with planning and flexibility,” says Luiz Moura.

Emphasize that for this the buyer needs to be flexible with schedules and look for flights on less crowded days. Also, you should consider alternative airports, such as considering leaving or arriving via Guarulhos or Campinas, and the same goes for international destinations.

Another tip from Moura is that travelers should carefully read the rules and choose a mileage plan that best suits their reality and, from there, start following the chosen plan well.

In the case of corporate travel, according to Moura: “The company that has modern tools, such as platforms that offer daring resources, will certainly have more chances to save, because through them it is possible to have price comparisons, greater agility and transparency during the reservation ”, he concluded.
