Animals locked in a branch of the Bicharada pet shopin the center of Porto Alegre (RS), they were saved by volunteers Wednesday 15th. The animals were trapped in the areawhich came amid the heavy rains that have hit the region in recent weeks. Some animals did not survive and died before being rescued.

The action, motivated by complaints, was carried out by the Feira Vegana de Porto Alegre group, together with the NGO Princípio Animal. With the shop closed, volunteers had to access the space through the roof.

“Because we couldn’t make any contact [com a polícia e bombeiros]and those responsible [pela loja] They didn’t show up, we climbed onto the roof and managed to unscrew it and look inside the shop. And when we saw that there were dead fish floating around, we decided to go in. The depth was over 1 meter and 60 centimeters of water,” Fernando Schell Pereira, director general of the NGO, told the newspaper. Zero hour.

Because of what happened, the organization said it will file a civil action against the establishment. In total, 61 animals were saved: 37 birds and 24 rodents.

According to the vehicle, representatives of the Bicharada branch stated that the animals were being rescued and that 80% had already been saved. Additionally, they said they are in contact with Ibama and the State Department of the Environment regarding the situation.
