The application brings the Prado Museum to the palm of your hand

The Prado Guide app also allows those who are far from the Spanish capital to learn about the structure of the museum and the main works on display

The famous Prado Museum, in Madrid, was already by far the most visited in Spain. From today it is possible to discover your collection even without leaving home, through an app. The application The Prado guide includes more than 400 works commented by the museum’s leading experts, including the history of each piece and its authors, the importance of the object in the museum’s collection, among other historical and cultural aspects.

The application is intuitive and easy to use and is available in nine languages, including Portuguese. You can search and select your favorite works. The software also contains a general presentation, with the history of the museum and several chapters on each collection.

The app includes free “tasting” of the exhibition

Access to the complete collection, consisting of over 400 annotated works, requires a fee. However, the application makes ten works available for free. Among them there are famous paintings, such as The girlsby Diego Velázquez, defined by the app itself as the best known of the Prado Museum.

You can also access and download works like The Cardinalby Raphael and The family of Charles IV, by Francisco de Goya. For those who decide to invest in the full version of the app, all jobs are accompanied by a technical sheet and the app allows you to download high resolution images.

The Prado Museum

The most important museum in Spain is also one of the most important in the world, conserving more than 35 thousand works. The order for the construction of the museum was given by King Charles III, in the 18th century. However, the inauguration took place only in 1819, more than 30 years after his death, during the reign of Fernando VII.

According to the institution itself, the Prado Museum contains the the largest public collection of paintings in the world. It has collections of Spanish, French, Flemish, German and Italian paintings. Includes names of artists such as El Greco, Albrecht Dürer, Caravaggio, among others.

The museum also houses more than two hundred sculptures from classical antiquity. Additionally, a large collection of drawings and prints, as well as a collection of decorative arts.

One of the best known works is Mona Lisa del Prado, which has been part of the collection since the museum was founded. This is the oldest known copy of the famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, the original of which is exhibited in the Louvre in Paris, and was probably created by one of the Italian painter’s students.
