The Dior store in Italy is in the crosshairs of justice for exploitation

The brand has outsourced production to irregular Chinese companies

A store located in Italy belonging to the French brand Dior has been placed under judicial administration for outsourcing its luxury production to Chinese companies that exploited its workers.

According to the decision of the Court of Milan, the Dior factory, which belongs to the largest luxury group in the world, will remain in these conditions for at least a year.

The Italian judges declared that Dior had not applied “adequate measures to verify the real working conditions or the technical capacity of the contracting companies”.

Investigators identified 32 employees, nine of them foreigners, who worked for wages below the limit and in “abusive and unhealthy environments”. Furthermore, the machinery was not equipped with safety devices that prevented people from coming into contact with chemical agents.

According to agents, a Dior bag, for example, cost around 56 euros (R$321) to produce, but was resold in the store for 2,600 euros (R$14,900). Asian companies operating irregularly were fined and their operations suspended.

In Italy, Dior became the third fashion company to be targeted by the Milanese court over similar employment issues. .
