The seal certifies fresh and marine waters around the world […]
The 2024/2025 Blue Flag Program season will have 38 beaches and 11 marinas recommended to the International Jury, however, five new beaches are competing for the first time.
Created to raise awareness among the population and public managers on the protection of marine environments, the program is an international seal that certifies fresh and marine waters around the world, based on certain environmental preservation and education criteria.
In practice this means that the beach must have excellent water quality, a constant cleaning service and adequate safety measures, such as lifeguards available based on the number of users.
Beaches of Rio and Santa Catarina
Of the 38 nominations, five new beaches are competing for the first time, all in Rio de Janeiro (Praia de Tucuns, in Búzios, and Lagunar Caiçara, in Arraial do Cabo; and in Santa Catarina (Praia Central, in Balneário Piçarras, and Praia das Cordas , in Governador Celso Ramos).
Furthermore, the beaches of Bacia da Vovó and Saudade, in Penha, return after losing their flag and being involved in the dispute again. Last season, 42 locations, 31 beaches and 11 marinas received the seal.
Currently, the coast of Brazil has 25 certified sand strips of excellence in their waters, most of them in Santa Catarina (16), followed by Rio de Janeiro (4) and Bahia (3). São Paulo also has a stretch of sand with the Blue Flag seal, Praia do Tombo, in Guarujá.
In a note sent to Travel by fareEmbratur informed that the final decision will be made in September, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
