Doll Barbie David Bowie, dressed in the singer-songwriter’s blue dress, celebrates her fourth studio album, Hunky Dory. We challenge you to upload the Life on Mars music video to experience nostalgia.

With auburn hair, blue eyeshadow and a pale blue suit, Bowie showcased the lyricist within him, while also establishing a fashion phenomenon that has long marked his signature. Today, the same outfit and style he wore in the video materialized as a collectible Barbie doll, sporting the iconic blue glam rock outfit.

Linda Kyaw-Merschon designed David Bowie’s toy, priced at $ 55, as an introduction to a second collectible doll honoring the pop chameleon.

The tie, wedge shoes and hairstyle inspired by the glam era of the 70s are also part of the doll’s look. Kyaw-Merschon says Barbie pays homage to Bowie, from her dress and makeup to his features, to mimic her essence and make sure she looks like Barbie but like Bowie.

Mattel Creations brought its Barbie Signature collection, which includes the Barbie David Bowie doll, to life as a tribute to pop culture, movie stars and idols. In May 2022, designer Carlyle Nuera sculpted a Barbie Vera Wang doll as part of the Barbie Tribute Collection, which celebrates visionaries whose contributions have helped shape and influence general culture.

Inspired by a look from her 2017 ready-to-wear collection, Vera Wang Barbie Doll wears a monochromatic ensemble with a black jumpsuit under a chiffon dress with attached puff sleeves, a front slit and LOVE lettering on the hem. A peplum belt with zip detail, black tights and platform with sculpted buckle details complete her look.

Nuera also designed the Laverne Cox Barbie doll, the first transgender Barbie in history. The toy uses an original design, with a dark red tulle dress gracefully draped over a silver metallic dress.

Another collector’s item is the Naomi Osaka Barbie Doll. Honored as a Barbie model, Osaka is known for using her platform to talk about human rights and racial injustice issues. The doll wears a brushstroke print Nike tennis dress, inspired by a look she sported in a big match in 2020, a white Nike visor, light blue sneakers and a replica of her Yonex tennis racket.

Another icon that has a Barbie exclusive is rock star Elvis Presley, a tribute to the legendary King of Rock ‘N’ Roll who features a combed ponytail and outfit inspired by his “American Eagle” jumpsuit. Like the original he wore at performances, his suit is decorated with red, gold and blue eagles and has an attached cape, red scarf, belt, and bell bottom.
