A hairball formed and grew on the patient’s stomach for two years
Doctors from Green Hospitalto the Ecuadorremoved a hairball weighing almost one kilogram from the stomach of a 24-year-old woman. The operation took place on Tuesday 16th. The operation was successful and lasted 45 minutes.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the hospital explained that it was a bezoar – as the accumulation of foreign materials in the digestive system is called – of medium 40 centimeters highFrom one kilogram and a total volume of 896 milliliters.
According to the hospital, the hairball formed and grew in the patient’s stomach over the course of approximately two years, causing her serious problems such as vomiting, severe pain and extreme difficulty swallowing solids and liquids.

“It was a mass that occupied the entire gastric cavity and could be identified even by external touch,” said Pedro Lovato, a general surgery specialist and the doctor responsible for the operation.
The hospital said the patient had lost so much weight that she was no longer able to eat.
“The operation, in addition to saving his life, also prevented further serious damage to his stomach,” reads the publication from Verdi Hospital.
