If you don’t like historical films, you haven’t watched the right ones. The past centuries weren’t just about the struggle for the throne, wars and behind-the-scenes intrigues. Sometimes, it’s about stories about ordinary people, non-trivial detective stories and a series of inexplicable events. At least, all of this is in the New Zealand mini-series “The Luminaries”, which will air on viju+ Serial from July 22 at 6:30 PM. And here are 5 reasons to watch it.
Fascinating story
The series “The Luminaries” is a successful adaptation of the novel of the same name by Eleanor Catton. For her work, the writer received the prestigious Booker Prize in 2013. Soon, Catton was offered to adapt the novel by writing the script for a mini-series.
The plot takes the viewer to the time of the New Zealand gold rush. Gold miner Crosby Wells is killed. The courtesan Anna Wetherell has been suspected. The girl herself does not remember anything, so her story will be told from the beginning. Thus, little by little, light will be shed on a series of confusing events. The viewer will be treated to a fascinating detective novel with flashbacks, incredible landscapes and a touch of mysticism.
Mystical
There are a lot of them here. The name “Luminaries” alone refers to something cosmic and mysterious. The series will feature a fortune teller with mysterious predictions, astrological connections between the characters, and fatalism.
The lovers will follow each other’s heels, but will never be able to meet. At the same time, an inexplicably strong connection can be traced between them. So strong that at a certain point one of them will begin to experience a substitution of memories. The mystical entanglement will only grow and drag the viewer further and further.
