The Last Maniac Executed in Russia: The Story of the Strange Livestock Specialist Sergei Golovkin

Fisher turned his garage into a real torture chamber – before the murder he tortured his victims for a long time.

Sergei hated his classmates: girls – because they did not pay attention to him, boys – for success with the opposite sex. Relations in the family are not going well: the father drinks and beats his son. The teenager took out his anger on the animals. Once he caught a cat on the street and, locking himself in a room, gouged out his eyes, cut off his head, and then dismembered it.

The only living beings that Golovkin loved were horses: as a child he constantly went to races, then he enrolled in the equestrian section, and after school he studied to become a specialist in animal husbandry. Colleagues considered Sergei strange: he liked to smell the genitals of mares and overcame the plan of artificial insemination with enviable consistency.

Sergei Golovkin first tried to kill a teenager in 1982. Nothing happened: the man seemed suspicious to the 12-year-old boy and the student fled. Later, Golovkin tried to attack the child in the forest without further delay, but a company of mushroom pickers turned out to be nearby, and the maniac had to let go of the resisting and screaming victim.

Golovkin carried out his plan two years after the first unsuccessful attempts: he found the teenager near the pioneer camp, intimidated him with a knife, took him to the forest and hung him from a tree. The boy survived, but was seriously injured – due to lack of oxygen, his brain tissue was damaged.

For four years, Sergei continued to act according to the same pattern: he wandered in the forest looking for children who walked alone, attacked them, hanged them, and then mutilated the bodies with a knife. Then he received the nickname Fisher – a character with this name, kidnapping children, appeared in popular “horror stories” of that time.

In 1988, Golovkin acquired a Zhiguli, and it was then that he came up with the idea of ​​arranging a basement in the garage, where he could mock the victims. Invented – made: Fischer dug a hole, covered its walls and floor with concrete blocks, provided good lighting, equipped with special brackets for hanging, brought knives, axes, a blowtorch and a scalpel.

The first boy ended up in a torture chamber in 1989. Golovkin persuaded a 15-year-old boy to get into his car, drove him to the garage, lured him into the basement, raped him and strangled him. He hung the body from the ceiling, cut several pieces off and ate it. It was the only experience of cannibalism: Fischer would later say that he did not like the taste of human flesh.

The car became a great helper for the maniac: on the roads he picked up voting teenagers. Usually he would suggest that they commit petty crimes – for example, robbing a warehouse or a summer house. The children often agreed and happily climbed into the trunk, we believe that a “conspiracy is necessary”. In 1990 alone, Fisher killed three boys.

The most brutal crime committed by Golovkin in 1992: he managed to lure three teenagers into the garage at once. Each of them was tortured and raped by Fisher in front of his friends. The last boy had the worst of all: two comrades were killed and massacred before his eyes. Sergei flayed the bodies, salting the skin.

However, this time Fisher made a mistake: initially there were four children in the business, but one of them refused to “go to work”, and eventually a witness appeared. The maniac, confident in his impunity, managed to tell the guys that his name is Sergey and he is a specialist in animal husbandry and a production manager, awarded with the VDNKh medal of the USSR. Thanks to this, in 1992, Golovkin was identified and detained.

When officers found Golovkin’s garage, it became clear that no further evidence would be needed. The whole room was covered in blood, the floor was littered with the remains of a torn school uniform and pieces of burnt human flesh. Fisher, realizing his guilt was obvious, did not deny it.

At the remand center, Golovkin was placed in a triple cell. Having learned who their neighbor was, the other two prisoners took turns sleeping: they were afraid of being killed in their sleep. Fisher behaved strangely: for example, he laughed at any joke for half an hour until his eyes filled with blood.

The investigation succeeded in proving that Golovkin killed 11 teenagers in eight years. Law enforcement was sure that there were actually more victims, because during this time, in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region, where Fischer operated, 40 boys disappeared. But the maniac suddenly stopped cooperating and did not confess in further episodes.

Fischer was sentenced to death in October 1994. They say that before the execution the jailers broke the iron rule not to inform the prisoner that he was being taken to be shot: they really wanted Sergei to live at least some of the horror experienced by the boys. Golovkin’s car was set on fire, the garage was razed. Now, at the basement site, a spontaneous memorial to Fisher’s victims has appeared – a mourning wreath hanging from a tree, remembering the murderer’s atrocities.
