The event continues until Friday, September 13th […]
The second Brazilian Polar Film Exhibition, created by InterAntar/UFABC, opens this Tuesday, September 10, at the Principia Institute’s Digital Dome, in Jardins.
The exhibition, which brings science, history and nature to the big screen, is curated by historian and photographer João Paulo Barbosa and features a program of films and documentaries that portray Antarctica and the Arctic in times of climate change.
“The idea of the Exhibition is to bring reflection and debate on the role and importance of the polar regions for Brazil and for the planet to the general non-academic public. It is an unprecedented cultural event in the country”, he tells Travel at a rateSilvia Dotta, leader of InterAntar, a network of scientists and teachers of Basic Education dedicated to the dissemination and teaching of polar sciences.
In addition to screenings of short and feature films, the Exhibition also includes an exhibition of photographs and books, photographic screenings, discussion panels and debate sessions with experts on environmental issues at the extreme ends of the planet, such as the Arctic and Antarctica.
The proposal is to offer the public a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of climate change and its impact on the polar regions.
“This dialogue between the public, producers, photographers, writers and polar travellers deepens the understanding of climate change and contributes to the formation of a polar mentality”, says Sandra Freberger-Affonso, coordinator of the Exhibition.
One of the strong points is the location of the event itself.
The 2nd Brazilian Polar Film Festival takes place at Domo Digital, a science outreach space located in a 360-degree immersive dome, which can also function as a Planetarium.
The dome is located at Rua Pamplona, 145, in Bela Vista, near Avenida Paulista.
