Many people worry so much about their facial skin that they forget about other areas of their body.
Facial care, from proper cleansing to sunscreen and hydration, are important steps toward healthy, protected skin. But did you know that you need to take care of your lap and hands?
Nicolly Machado, a doctor with a specialization in clinical, aesthetic and surgical dermatology, answered Malu some questions about these areas of the body and what care we should provide.
What are the best daily habits to protect the skin on your neck and hands from premature aging?
“Apply sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days, do not forget that the incidence of solar radiation is always present! Also, use cleansing products that do not damage the skin, as well as protective clothing and seek shade during peak hours. It is also important to use moisturizing soaps and gently dry the skin after cleansing, to avoid dryness and dermatitis.”
How important is it to use sunscreen in these areas and how often should it be reapplied throughout the day?
“Sunscreen is essential and irreplaceable to protect the skin from damage caused by UV rays, which can accelerate aging and cause spots. In fact: it should be reapplied every two or three hours, or more frequently in case of sweating or contact with water. “
What is the step by step guide to healthy hands and lap?
“For intense hydration, use and overuse moisturizers that restore the skin barrier. For antioxidants that help protect the skin, vitamin C and niacinamide are excellent. For nourishment and softness, I recommend hyaluronic acid and d-panthenol. To soften and calm the skin, allantoin, vitamin E and niacinamide are great allies.”
What type of exfoliation is recommended and how often should it be done?
“Gentle exfoliation, using chemical exfoliants (such as glycolic, mandelic, and low-strength retinoic acids), is recommended at least twice a week.”
How does diet and water intake affect the health and appearance of the skin on your neck and hands?
“A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats provides essential nutrients for healthy skin. Adequate water intake helps keep skin hydrated and can improve its elasticity and overall appearance, preventing dryness and sagging.”
