Ica and Puno are some of the most popular destinations […]
Neighboring Peru is home to one of South America’s most sought-after tourist destinations. But far beyond the Inca’s lost city of Machu Picchu, the country has attractions for all types of travelers.
And Brazilians know it.
According to PROMPERÚ, a local tourism promotion agency, between January and July 2024, approximately 107,000 Brazilians arrived in the country, an increase of 71% compared to the same period in 2023. With these numbers, Brazil ranks 5th in the ranking of markets that send international tourists to Peru.
In a note sent to Travel at a ratePromperú reported that the numbers exceed pre-pandemic levels. In 2019, for example, in the same period, Brazilian tourists numbered 100,167.
One of the contributions to the increase is the air connectivity between the two countries, with the availability of 186 direct flights, departing from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia to Lima.
In October, flights from Curitiba (PR) to the Peruvian capital will begin operating, thus facilitating access for tourists from southern Brazil, as well as the Porto Alegre-Lima route, when operations resume at Salgado Filho Airport, in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
According to Silvia Seperack, economic and commercial consultant of the PROMPERÚ office in Brazil, the increases reflect the work of approach, facilitation and promotion carried out by the Peruvian government and actions such as Peru Week, in which tour operators and airlines promoted travel offers and training for professionals in the sector.
Most visited destinations in Peru
Adventure, cultural, historical and gastronomic tourism are some of the themed travel options in Peru.
Lima, with its world-famous restaurants, is an address for food lovers. For those who love culture and history, there is no shortage of churches, convents, colonial buildings and archaeological sites.

According to the Foreign Tourist Profile survey (2023), carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, the Peruvian destinations preferred by Brazilians are: Lima, for its cultural and gastronomic attractions; and Cusco, gateway to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
There, for example, it is possible to travel the Qhapaq Ñan, a system of Inca roads with sections such as the one that goes from the Sacred Valley to the citadel of Machupicchu.
The list of the most popular destinations for Brazilians continues with Ica, with attractions such as the Nasca Lines and the Paracas National Reserve; and Puno, address of Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.
The more adventurous will have new features, such as the Lima-Áncash flight, inaugurated mid-year. The destination is known for trekking with spectacular views of Huascarán, the highest mountain in Peru, and the Huayhuash mountain range, turquoise lakes such as Llanganuco.
