After several pop collaborations, Pollex Juniper Sneaker finally puts Crocs in the streetwear market
In the dynamic landscape of footwear design, Crocs took a bold step by appointing Salehe Bembury as creative director of the Crocs x Pollex Pod project earlier this year. Bembury, whose previous collaboration with the brand resulted in the Pollex Clog in 2021, is now venturing further, promising continued innovation under his creative leadership. Proof of that is this new launch, the Pollex Juniper Sneaker, arriving in Brazil this Monday (23) in the color Tahini for R$ 749.99. This is the second cw of the model in the world, but the first in the country.

The launch of the Juniper marks another milestone in Crocs’ evolution, expanding its repertoire beyond traditional rubber clogs. The slightly translucent outsole, adorned with Bembury’s iconic digital print pattern, is designed for trail riding, adding a distinctive touch to the design. This translucent detail extends around the entire Juniper, embracing the midsole in a wraparound style.

The upper features large perforations on the toe and heel, highlighting the breathability that Crocs is known for. It also features a textured finish throughout the upper, while the collar is reinforced with breathable fabric that forms an integral part of the tongue. There is no lining, just the texture of the upper material.

This combination creates a sneaker that is not exactly lightweight due to the sturdy sole material, but very comfortable for this very reason, because the weight is all concentrated in the lower part, and for the insole that is an evolution of the LiteRide, with a foam that is 40% softer and 25% lighter than others used by the brand. There is also a traditional lacing system and subtle collaborative logos that complete the design, maintaining an elegant aesthetic within the boldness of Bembury. The introduction of laces in Crocs may seem unusual at first glance, but it is not the first time and is very welcome.

While Crocs has experimented with a few sneakers before, like the LiteRide and Echo Storm, Bembury’s Juniper represents the brand’s first foray into a sneaker option that’s truly integral to the streetwear scene, with the weight of the designer’s name signaling a promising future for the company’s lace-up shoe collaborations.

First delicate step
This Tahini colorway, with a more muted color scheme, in contrast to the bright combinations seen in the sneaker’s first release, seems like the best choice to test the sneaker market in Brazil, which is not yet as mature as that of the United States and Japan, for example. It therefore makes sense to go the other way, bringing this one here and then, in the face of potential success, the more colorful one.
