Travis Barker relives the trauma caused by the Voepass accident in Brazil

The Blink-182 bassist said the news revived memories of a similar experience

Travis Barker, the drummer of Blink-182, has revealed that he was deeply shaken by the news of the Voepass accident in Brazil in early August. The plane tragedy killed 62 people who were on board when it crashed into a residential apartment block in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo. The information comes from the Wall Street Journal, New York.

The musician said the information aggravated his old trauma with air travel, as well as brought back memories of a similar experience. “I was fine for a while, but the plane crash in Brazil sent me into a tailspin while I was in Europe. It gave me one of the most realistic flashback nightmares I’ve ever had after the crash. I couldn’t be was so for a long time,โ€ Barker reported.

Due to the trauma, Barker was unable to continue Blink-182’s tour with air travel and had to travel overland. “I took 15 19-hour bus trips, I took the ferry. I only went to Europe and back by plane. But now I’m not well enough to fly. I’ll go by bus until the end of the year. I have good and bad phases and right now I’m in a bad situation,โ€ he lamented.

In 2018, Barker was aboard a plane that suffered a tire explosion during the takeoff procedure. The captain even warned the control tower to send rescue teams, but the measure was not enough to avoid a tragedy in the state of South Carolina, in the United States. Four people died.

With the explosion, the plane was consumed by flames and the musician suffered third-degree burns, which affected approximately 65% โ€‹โ€‹of his body and almost resulted in the amputation of his right foot. As a result, Barker spent 11 weeks in hospital, where he underwent 27 surgeries to apply skin grafts, as well as receiving numerous blood transfusions.
