Across Brazil, less than 29% of the target audience has completed the vaccination program
The Ministry of Health has expressed concern about the lack of compliance with the legislation Vaccine from the dengue in the State of Sao Paulo. So far the vaccine is only available to children and adolescents aged 10 to 14, a group that corresponds to the second highest number of dengue hospitalizations. In first place are the elderly, a group for which the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has not yet released the vaccine. Protection is provided by Unified Health System (SUS) and the correct interval between the application of the two doses is three months.
“This public has lower participation precisely because it is not an age that usually frequents health services. Therefore, parents and guardians must bring their children and adolescents to be vaccinated”, asks the secretary for health and environmental surveillance, Ethel Maciel.
In a note, the ministry informs that “active research is underway to guarantee the application of the second dose to adolescents”. The folder does not detail the actions, but highlights the schools as main allies.
Not all cities have received the vaccine, only health regions with large municipalities with high transmission over the past decade. Other criteria for defining the locations were a population of 100,000 or more and high incidence rates of dengue in recent months.
In addition to the immunizer, all the recommendations against mosquitoes Aedes aegizi remain valid, including leaving no standing water; seal water tanks and reservoirs; and unblock gutters, attics and drains.
