Them on the red carpet – How did you start modeling? Has it always been a dream?Maria Klausmann – Her modeling career began three years ago, but the desire to work in the industry has existed for a long time. I grew up in Aurora, Santa Catarina, a small town with little visibility for fashion. While I dreamed of being a model, I stayed grounded and prepared. At first it was very difficult due to financial conditions. We couldn’t invest in making me go to Sao Paulo and make presentations in agencies. The one time I could have made the trip – my grandmother offered to help me – it didn’t work out. Believe me, I broke my arm the day before.

After this failed attempt, I also put the idea of modeling out of my head, but continued to work in the beauty industry in my region. One of the makeup artists who worked with me decided to take my photos to the Mega Models team who were in Camboriú. After this first contact, in less than 24 hours I was already in Sao Paulo. It was difficult to convince my parents. The management of Mega had to come from Camboriú, which is 3h30 from my city, to personally talk to my parents. The process was fast, but from the beginning I had the feeling of being on the right path, meeting the right people at the right time. The opportunity came and I was ready to take it. And that’s where it all started.

Them on the red carpet – What was it like receiving the award and how did you get there? Have you been registered or recommended?

Maria Klausmann – The feeling of receiving the Fashion Media Awards was incredible, representing recognition of all my efforts over the past few years. I didn’t need to sign up. The award, in the New Model category, is based on nominations from renowned international fashion professionals. The ceremony, held at the Rainbow Room in Manhattan, New York, was emotional, especially when he received the award from Stella Maxwell (Belgian model). It was a milestone in my career. That night will be remembered forever. It was also a moment of great gratitude. I have to thank several people – family, friends and agents – who supported me and contributed to making this professional evolution and, in such a short time, to have an award to celebrate. Of course I was very anxious and felt insecure, especially because I needed to speak in English in front of a very renowned audience, Rihanna was also present.

Them on the red carpet – Who is your fashion icon? Or who do you inspire to pursue your career and why?

Maria Klausmann – I have been lucky enough to work with established role models who inspire me. Recently, for example, I created the cover of V Magazine together with Isabeli Fontana, who is a great reference for me. I also admire top models like Gisele Bündchen and Adriana Lima. They all have impressive professional trajectories, marking the prominent history of Brazilian models on the international fashion scene. They stand out both on the catwalk and off. They are women who leave their mark, have essence and do not give up their personality. They make a difference in the market.

Them on the red carpet – What wish would you like to fulfill in your modeling career?

Maria Klausmann – I am open to different experiences in my modeling career and I believe I still have a lot to learn. I never thought I’d work as a presenter, but I love this new phase. I recently worked on the web series “New generation of Brazilian fashion” from the “Vogue”which explores the work of incredible designers in Brazil. This experience was enriching, allowing me to reflect on fashion and deepen my knowledge of the fundamentals of creation. I discovered how important my communicative and spontaneous side is for these jobs. I want to continue exploring new opportunities, modeling for several renowned brands and participating in innovative fashion editorials.

Them on the red carpet – Have you ever had setbacks in your career or had any frustrations?

Maria Klausmann – On the night of the New Model of the Year award, at the Fashion Media Awards. Speaking in English, on stage, to my highly qualified audience gave me butterflies in my stomach. The main names of the fashion world were there. But everything went well. I got a lot of help. And there were less glamorous situations. Once I was photographing in the interior of São Paulo, in a very rustic farm, and since I come from the countryside, I immediately said to the team: ‘Ah, I can handle everything, I’m used to the forest, the animals, whatever happens!’. Everything was fine until, in the middle of taking photos, I was asked to sit in a somewhat isolated place. Without thinking twice, I sat down, but on top of an anthill! When I realized this, I was already jumping and screaming, trying to get the ants off me, while the whole team burst into laughter. It was chaos, but it ended up producing some great photos.

Them on the red carpet – What is your eating routine, physical routine, etc.?

Maria Klausmann – I recently discovered Pilates and, to my surprise, I love it! It brought benefits to both the body and the mind. I don’t give up running, even when travelling; I like exploring the streets of cities like New York, Paris and Madrid. At the beginning of the year I created a campaign for the American fitness brand Alo, for which I recorded workouts on the streets of New York (photo above)an incredible experience. Regular exercise helps me cope with an intense work routine, reducing anxiety and increasing my energy. When I return to Brazil, I love playing beach tennis and I also consider myself a good player! Look, when it comes to food, I’m careful, but not excessive.
