Adopting some daily habits is essential to protect eye health from problems such as cataracts and blindness
According to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), every five seconds an adult in the world loses their sight. In Brazil the situation is equally worrying: more than one million people are blind and another four million have vision problems, with only 30% of their visual capacity, according to data from the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology (CBO). These numbers highlight the urgency of preventive measures, considering that 90% of cases of vision loss could be avoided with early diagnosis.
“Prevention and early diagnosis are essential to prevent the progression of eye diseases,” says Fabíola Marazato, ophthalmologist at CBV-Hospital de Olhos. He points out that “many conditions, such as cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, can be successfully treated if identified early. Regular eye exams are essential to catch problems before they become serious.” The expert warns that the lack of treatment can lead to irreversible consequences and compromise people’s quality of life.
In addition to periodic exams, the ophthalmologist emphasizes that eye health awareness should be a priority for everyone, regardless of age. “It is important that people are aware of the signs of vision problems, such as difficulty seeing near or far, and contact an ophthalmologist as soon as they notice any changes. Information is a powerful ally in prevention,” he emphasizes .
