Species are known to “clean” energy from people and places
Known for its distinctive white flower, the peace lily It is a very common plant in Brazilian homes as it requires simple care and is associated, as its name suggests, with peace, harmony and purification. The plant was even listed by NASA as one of the plants that most clean the air of impurities and help well-being.
Popularly, the peace lily is seen as an environmental purifier, cleansing negative energies coming from people or spirits. It is said that when the flowers of the peace lily wither, it is because the plant has absorbed a lot of negative energy and has fulfilled its role of protecting the place where it is planted.
Due to its many symbolic meanings, the peace lily is also commonly given as a welcome or condolence gift. Its reputation for “cleansing” the energy of the place where it is planted means that the species is widely used to attract good luck.
Interestingly, the peace lily is not a lily. Native to Asia and Central America, the plant is part of the family Araceaewhose flowers have a single petal surrounding a spike-shaped inflorescence. Accustomed to tropical climates, the peace lily has adapted well to Brazil and can thrive with proper care.
It must be said that, if ingested, the peace lily can be toxic to humans and animals and requires particular attention for those who do not want to harm their pets. Symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or breathing, eye irritation and itching may indicate that the animal has ingested the plant, which should be urgently taken to a vet.
How to care for the peace lily
The peace lily is a relatively easy plant to care for. The best place to leave it is in indirect sunlight, as too much sun can burn the leaves and petals.
Just like sunlight, peace lily watering should not be constant. The most advisable thing is to use little water until the planted soil is slightly moist. Excessive and unnecessary watering can cause the roots to rot, leading to the death of the plant.
The peace lily thrives best in humid environments, so it is advisable to spray the leaves with water regularly.
