The chef’s advice: how to save money by going to the market

Chef Giu Giunti gives four essential tips to put into practice now!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve found the supermarket increasingly expensive. No matter the purchase, the value is always absurd and every day that passes only increases. There are 5 people in my house, and if we don’t have planning and organization we end up spending more than we should. I will share with you some tips that work really well here so that you can also save money.

Menu of the week

I like to start by organizing the menu for the week, after all it is the starting point of the shopping list. With the updated meal plan, everything becomes easier. In addition to organizing your food, you also reduce waste. When I prepare the menu I already think about the leftovers and what to do with them.

For example: “Monday Lunch” will have a whole roasted chicken with rice and vegetables. With the leftover chicken and rice I will prepare it for “Tuesday” dinner: baked colored rice with chopped chicken. This way you already have savings and you will no longer have waste. Naturally the preparation is done considering both dishes. In addition to saving money, you also save more time.

Seasonal foods

Another factor that significantly influences prices is seasonality. Understanding the best time to buy certain foods is a very strong point for saving money. After all, what nature offers us in abundance will always be easier and cheaper.

Always list

Making a shopping list before leaving the house seems to be quite obvious, marking not only what you have finished but also what you want to buy. This organization avoids impulsive and unplanned purchases. I try to avoid being without a list as much as possible, because that’s when I end up getting lost among shelves with so many options.

Full belly

Never ever go to the supermarket hungry. I joke that even cleaning products look yummy when you go out on an empty stomach. Have a quick snack before you go to avoid overeating.
