Understand what pubalgia is, a common inflammation during pregnancy that kept the digital influencer up at night!
Eliezer showed his wife, Viih Tube, on Instagram Stories with an ice pack near his private area, and asked her to explain what was happening. Vihh, who is nine months pregnant, explained to her followers that she suffers from groin pain.
The former BBB also spoke on the topic for the sake of the woman, drawing attention to the condition that caused pain in the influencer’s pelvic region.
Like everything Viih and Eliezer publish, Groin has generated curiosity and concern among many who follow their journey.
pubalgia
Pubalgia, or pubic symphysis dysfunction, is a condition that can cause intense pain in the pelvic region and is common in pregnant women, especially in the last months of pregnancy.
He spoke with Natalia Castro, gynecologist and obstetrician from FEBRASGO Malu magazine and explained the problem.
“This condition manifests as pain that may radiate to the thighs and lower abdomen, often described as a feeling of heaviness or discomfort in the lower abdomen.”
What are the causes of pubalgia?
During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes several hormonal and physical changes that can cause groin pain.
Natalia explains that “the increase in relaxin, a hormone that relaxes the ligaments to allow childbirth, together with weight gain and postural changes, can cause overload in the pelvis”.
Because of this overload, women may experience pain, often when climbing stairs or even getting out of bed.
Isabela Staboli, pelvic physiotherapist at the Instituto Macabi, adds: “Pain can appear in the second trimester and reach its peak between the 24th and 36th week of pregnancy,” she explains.
According to her, daily activities, such as standing or sitting for a long time, can worsen the condition. Furthermore, movements such as turning over in bed or climbing stairs are commonly associated with worsening pain.”
How to relieve symptoms?
Early diagnosis is essential, according to Natalia. The obstetrician recommends that pregnant women suffering from pelvic pain see a doctor to rule out other conditions, such as urinary infections or signs of premature labor, ensuring that treatment is as appropriate as possible.
Treatment
Treatment of pubalgia includes pelvic physiotherapy, which aims to strengthen the pelvic muscles and improve stability.
Isabela Staboli also underlines that “physiotherapy helps relieve pain through lumbopelvic stabilization exercises, stretching and specific manual techniques”.
However, some pregnant women may also benefit from using support belts, which provide more stability to the pelvic region.
In addition to physical therapy, pregnant women can use other approaches to minimize discomfort.
Among the techniques that certainly contribute are acupuncture, light aerobic exercises and stretching, which help release endorphins and increase the pain threshold, providing natural relief.
“Each case is unique and treatment must be personalized to meet the specific needs of each pregnant woman,” explains Isabela.
Does pubalgia persist until the end of pregnancy?
Yes, but for most pregnant women, the symptoms usually go away after giving birth.
“Discomfort may be common until the end of pregnancy, however, with proper treatment, it is possible to reduce the intensity of pain and improve the quality of life until the baby is born,” says Dr. Natalia.
With Viih Tube’s report, however, many pregnant women can identify with and feel encouraged to seek specialized help to address the challenges of pubalgia during pregnancy, providing greater peace of mind and comfort in the final months of pregnancy.
