Dog has been waiting for days for the return of a soldier killed during an attack in Colombia

Han, the dog, had been in the army’s care for more than five years

The family of soldier Anderson Gómez Posada is in mourning after losing him during an attack carried out by snipers from a criminal group, in the San Calixto police battalion, in the Catatumbo region, Colombia. Since the soldier’s death on Monday 21st, his dog Han has been waiting for his return.

Because he doesn’t understand what happened to his guardian, Han lies on Gómez’s bed “crying uncontrollably” and not eating, according to the family. The head of communications of the Norte de Santander Police, Raiza López, told a local newspaper that the soldier had had the dog for more than five years and that this explains the emotional state of the animal when he noticed the absence of his owner.

The friendship between the two was formed when the marshal made sure that Han accompanied him to every destination where he was transferred for work. Due to his absence, Raiza López assured that the animal will soon be handed over to the family of those who look after it.

Last Monday the second lieutenant was working in the battalion when he was surprised by snipers from an illegal group, presumably members of the National Liberation Army (ELN).

The soldier was rescued and transported by helicopter to the city of Cúcuta, in the north of the province of Santander, to receive adequate medical care. However, he succumbed to his injuries and died.

A reward of up to R$133,000 was offered to anyone who discovered the perpetrator of the crime and helped identify and capture those involved. Meanwhile, “in coordination with the National Army, offensive actions are being carried out in the area to locate and capture the criminals who attacked the city of San Calixto,” the police said.

Authorities reported that the victim had had an impeccable career and was dedicated and committed. In his CV, Gómez has already received 27 congratulations and two decorations for his services in the police.
