BODY: ‘Every day I try to embrace myself,’ reveals Tati Machado about having an unusual body

The presenter hosted a panel at the BODY event and opened up about her journey of acceptance and freedom as a fat woman.

The BODY (Body Open Define You) event held its third edition in Sao Paulo on October 26 and brought together several prominent personalities to discuss self-acceptance and mental health challenges.

Among the guests, presenter Tati Machado, 33, participated in the panel “Bodies without standards” and commented on the challenges of being a woman outside the standards on and off Brazilian television.

Live every morning on TV Globo, Tati has become a symbol of joy and representation for the network’s viewers. Her always lively appearances and the dances she performs together with musical acts led her to participate and win the ‘Dança dos Famosos 2024’, on Domingão com Huck.

At the event, the journalist revealed that, despite her success, she still does not consider herself a completely free person.

“That doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying every day to go in this direction. And I understood this in practice, I only understood this year,” Tati said referring to the dance competition. “It was one of the most transformative experiences of my life,” he added.

The presenter followed the panel by talking about the importance of embracing oneself and seeking one’s freedom.

“Every day I try to welcome myself. Be it in my insecurities, in my doubts, in my ego, in my difficulties, in the joys, in the defeats, in the victories… I think that this exercise of finding one’s freedom is the most powerful thing a woman can do for herself ”, he underlined.

There are days when I look in the mirror and say, “I don’t like what I see.” It’s a lot of daily work to get rid of all those thoughts that go through our heads.

Tati also told the audience that she became a fat woman at age 19, when she was starting to learn about herself and adjust to adult life and when women with her looks were not represented in the media.

“I left vanity aside, this desire to feel beautiful. I gave up this aspect of myself simply out of frustration at going into shops and not finding my size, because in addition to being fat I’m 1.50m tall. And as if that wasn’t enough, we didn’t see each other during that period. I haven’t seen a fat woman host a TV show, pose beautifully in a bikini on social media or be on the cover of a magazine,” the journalist said.

Tati also spoke about the responsibility of sharing “always perfect” content on social networks and underlined the importance of noting that profiles only show part of the life behind them.

Created by Ju Ferraz and Carol Veras, the BODY movement aims to spark conversations about freedom and the role of women in society. The meeting took place at the PHD Rooftop, located in the Tomie Ohtake Institute building, designed by architect Ruy Ohtake.

With two dedicated phases – BODY and Body and Alma – BODY 2024 brought debates on essential topics, such as Free Body, Plural Fashion, Ageless Beauty, Financial Freedom, Menopause, Digital Influence, Regionalism and Entrepreneurship.

One of the novelties of this edition was the mentoring room, which allocated approximately 30% of the tickets to the invited social institutions. The initiative strengthened BODY’s commitment to social impact projects, offering support for initiatives that aim to promote inclusion and strengthen causes relevant in 2024.
