Have you ever thought about going to church to confess your sins and come face to face with none other than Jesus Christ? Avatar of Jesus Christ

The experiment, which came into force in August this year, worked like this: on the other side of the confessional, a screen where believers could see the classic image of Jesus. Therefore, he answered questions in real time. During the two months of operation of the installation, more than a thousand people, of different religions and from different parts of the world, went to the site.

Marco Schmid, theologian of the church, in an interview with the newspaper The Guardian, he said the goal was to understand how people would react: “We wanted to find out what they would talk to him about. Would they be interested in talking? We are probably pioneers in this. We thought about creating an avatar of a theologian, an ordinary person or a saint, but we concluded that the best figure would be Jesus same”, he stated.

The project, the result of a collaboration between the Church and the research laboratory of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences (HSLU), has been criticized. Many questioned whether it was okay to use technology for religious purposes. Furthermore, one of the challenges of the tool was to minimize the risk that AI Jesus would provide inadequate responses to the population or, indeed, that it would not follow the teachings of the Catholic Church.
