Find out how to keep your body moving without neglecting rest and fun
The end-of-year holiday period is ideal for renewing energy, but rest does not have to mean abandoning physical activity. Staying active during this period is essential to start 2025 with energy and health, without leaving wellbeing aside.
With practical and adaptable alternatives, such as outdoor exercise and short workouts, you can balance fun and self-care. So, find out how to include healthy habits in your holiday routine and make the most of this time!
1. Outdoor activities
Elizimara Augusta Lima Braga, coordinator of the Physical Education course at the Faculdade Anhanguera, underlines that one of the great allies to enjoy on holiday is time outdoors. “If you are traveling to a destination surrounded by nature, such as beaches or mountains, take the opportunity to do so hikingtrails and bike rides. Not only does this help keep your body moving, but it’s also a great way to relax and connect with your environment, as well as providing cardiovascular health benefits,” she explains.
2. Simple exercises to keep your body moving
In addition to outdoor activities, the teacher emphasizes the importance of maintaining an exercise routine, even if adapted at home or even on the beach. “During the holidays, you can do shorter, low-impact activities like stretching, yoga or pilates, which help improve flexibility, reduce stress and strengthen the body in a balanced way”, advises Elizimara Augusta Lima Braga.
Another simple and effective exercise is stretching, which can be done anywhere. The coordinator suggests that upon waking up, or before going to sleep, you do a series of stretches to activate circulation and prevent injuries, especially if you have been sitting for a long time during the journey. “Stretching exercises help improve posture, reduce muscle stiffness, and increase flexibility. Plus, they’re a great way to start or end your day more relaxed,” she says.
3. Short and dynamic workouts
If you prefer more dynamic activities, the teacher suggests incorporating simple circuit training or high-intensity interval training (HIIT). “You can do a HIIT workout at home, no equipment needed. Moves like jumping jacks, squatspush-ups and running on the spot can be performed in a 20 to 30 minute circuit, being an effective way to maintain fitness and burn calories while on holiday,” explains Elizimara Augusta Lima Braga.
4. Integrate physical activity into social life
The end of year holidays can be an excellent opportunity to integrate physical activities into your social life. Elizimara Augusta Lima Braga offers games with friends or family such as football, volleyball or even group walks. “These activities are fun and help keep everyone active without feeling like they’re working out. Social interaction is an important motivational factor to keep moving,” she says.
5. Balance and regularity
Finally, the coordinator of the Physical Education course underlines that the important thing during the holidays is to maintain regularity and moderation. “The goal is not to overload yourself with exercises, but to incorporate moments of… physical activity daily so that your health stays up to date without compromising rest. Find the activities you like and enjoy your holiday with balance”, he concludes.
