Share lunch with a friend and give dinner to an enemy, says a well-known expression. But what if you still don’t want to give up this meal?
For many people, the ideal dinner time depends on when they can fit it into their busy schedule. But is this really the healthiest solution? When would it really be optimal to eat your last meal of the day? The answer to this question is surprisingly more complex than it seems at first glance.
Nutritionist Vanessa Rissetto explained that various factors, such as age and lifestyle, play a role in determining when dinner should take place.
“For example, if you work shifts while everyone else is asleep, your ideal time for dinner will be different. But as a general rule, I recommend eating within two hours of first waking up, and then every three to four hours after that,” Risetto recommends.
“It is more important to eat regularly throughout the day. It’s helpful to alternate between feeling hungry and full every three to four hours, says Perry Halperin, a New York-based nutritionist.
However, research shows that eating in the evening between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. is beneficial for overall health. If this doesn’t fit into your schedule, it’s important to try not to eat at least three hours before bed.
