The end of the year has arrived and with it the Christmas and New Year celebrations. This time of year, gathering family and friends around the table to enjoy dinner makes the occasion special. However, investing in beautiful decorations transforms the environment and helps bring the feel of the season into the celebration.

1. Use the typical colors of the era

The shades of red are already traditionally established as classics of Christmas. Together with them, green plays a very important role in Christmas decorations. For New Year’s Eve it is possible to use colors that have meanings. The traditional white, gold and silver – linked to generosity and prosperity – bring environments to a renewed climate of hope.

2. Make a plan

Planning is essential to ensure nothing goes as planned. Therefore it is important to make a list, considering the number of guests and what you will need to purchase. It is obviously necessary to always consider the budget and use what has been acquired in other years. The choice of the place where dinner will be served and the environments used are also part of the planning.

3. Invest in decorative items

Although the name is “centerpiece”, this decoration it can be distributed over the entire length of the table, harmoniously. A good option are trays, which can be decorated with Christmas leaves, the famous baubles and even fruit.

Candles, flowers and decorations can also be used. Furthermore, other simple and elegant solutions are glass or crystal containers, which can act as a centerpiece on the table. Using plants in decoration is also a way to promote a feeling of intimacy and relaxation, bringing nature into your dinner.

4. Consider the arrangement of cutlery on the table

Christmas dinner usually brings together many people and features a greater variety of dishes. Therefore, for efficient table setting, it is important to think about the space available when choosing and organization of dishes and cutlery. Always take into account the number of people who will sit at the table, as utensils must not limit the space.

As far as etiquette is concerned, crockery and cutlery should be organized as follows: knife always on the right with the blade towards the inside, glasses and stemware on the right. The forks are on the left, the dessert cutlery above the plate.

5. Buy towels and napkins

Tablecloths are an optional item, but they are a good solution for those who host many children, as they help protect the table from dirt. They can be white, to contrast with the colors of the decoration and dishes, or very colourful, when the rest is more minimalist. Plus, they’re a subtle way to show attention to detail.
