The three-time world champion surfer Gabriele Medina was injured during training in Maresias, on the coast of Sao Paulo, he underwent surgery this Saturday 11th and is therefore excluded from the 2025 season of the World Surfing League. The information about the accident was confirmed by the athlete.

In the post, made on his Instagram profile, Medina explained that the accident occurred on Thursday 9th. The surfer also published images of the moment in which he tries to land, after an aerial manoeuvre, and loses his balance, seeking support. the arm, injuring a pectoral muscle.

Medina then underwent surgery at Albert Einstein Hospital, in Sao Paulo. After recovering from surgery, the athlete will need to undergo physiotherapy treatment. The expectation is that he will return to competition only in the second half of 2025.

“Everything went well and we are already looking at the recovery period and next steps. I was preparing and very focused for the 2025 season, but unfortunately I will be out for a while,” Medina lamented.

Bronze at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, the surfer thanked his followers for their support and said he keeps his “total focus now on recovery to come back stronger.”

The next WSL season will begin on January 27. The first stop is in Pipeline, Hawaii. Brazil will be represented by Tati Weston-Webb, among the women, and several names among the men, such as Filipe Toledo, Italo Ferreira, João Chianca and Yago Dora, among others.
