The combinations disclosed on the internet can cause vomiting to damage to the nervous system, warning experts
THE high price Hygiene and cleaning products make many people use “alternative recipes” and produce their formulations at home. Many people also mix products that must already create stronger substances.
The practices, however, are not recommended by National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). Contact with mixtures of indiscriminate substances can cause respiratory problems, chemical burns and even lead to death.
“The risk of creating cleaning products is very high. There is nothing positive in the execution of these combinations”, warns Ubiracir Lima, consultant of the Federal Council of Chemical (CFQ).
The products for cleaning, according to Anvisa, are substances or formulations used to remove dirt from environments, objects and surfaces. They are controlled by health surveillance and must follow specific rules from the formulation to the label.
“The first test that a chemistry professional does when developing the formulation of a detergent or disinfectant, for example, is to see the compatibility between the substances. That is, to see if they will not react together,” says Lima.
So they pass through the effectiveness test to check if they really work. “Then there is the security test. He will see how to apply the formulations without being at risk for health. As soon as the tests are performed, Anvisa makes an analysis of the results and approves, or not, the product. Only the factory It will be able to sell if it has been authorized, “he explains.
“Now, when I take two products for cleaning at home and mix with them, nobody knows what will happen. You don’t know if it will work or generate another component, another chemical, which will be harmful to my body.”, He adds File.
Mixed can lead to death
An example of dangerous mixture is the combination of bleach and ammonia disinfectant (NH3). “You will generate a very dangerous gas, called Cloramin (NH2CL). Inhalation can make you lose their senses. If nobody helps you, you can death,” warns the consultant.
According to the toxicologist Mauricio Yonamine, professor at the Department of Clinical and Toxicological Analysis of University of San Paolo (USP)The gases resulting from the mixtures are harmful to the skin and the mucous membranes, which generate eye irritation, nose, throat and respiratory tract.
Attention to the label
Labels should have the use of the product to safety notices. Anvisa underlines that it is essential that users correctly follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
If you need to mix one product with another to have a more effective result, the recommendation should be listed on the label. Otherwise, the procedure must not be performed. “There are also some products that say” do not mix this product with that other “given the amount of accidents that have occurred due to involuntary mixtures”, underlines Lima.
If you have questions or problems with toxic products, the Ministry of Health It maintains the dial-path. The number is 0800-722-6001. The connection is free and the user is served by one of the 36 toxicological information and assistance centers (CIAT), present in 19 states. The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year.
