Summary
Bill proposed by the Federal Deputy Rosana Valle aims to make mammography mandatory for women from the age of 40 in the public network, contributing to the early diagnosis of breast cancer.
The Federal Federal Rosana Valle (PL-SP) presented a bill that determines the doctors of public schools to indicate mammography for women from the age of 40. The text 184/2025 includes new guidelines for Law 11.664/2008, which deals with the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer in the Unified Health System (Sus). With the measure in force, according to the deputy, a more effective combat will be possible for the disease in free health.
According to the proposal presented in the session that marked the beginning of the legislative year of 2025, in Brasilia-DF, the procedure should be performed, as a rule, except in the opposite determination. In practice, the liberal project also reduces the mandatory time for the Sus to guide the female public to start preventive tests for breast cancer. Today, the indication in the public network occurs only from the age of 50, being the mammography performed every two years.
Rosana, however, recalls that over 40% of cases of breast cancer occur in women under the age of 50. This is the great reason why the Brazilians submit to the 40 -year -old mammography, as recommended by the Brazilian Society of Mastology (SBM) and the Brazilian federation of the philanthropic institutions for the support for the health of the breast (Femama).
Once filed, the bill 184/2025 awaits the expedition of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), so that only, therefore, is distributed to thematic committees, for appreciation.
In understanding the PL-SP parliamentarian, the indication of the monitoring of images only from the age of 50 by the Sus to cover a significant part of the female population, thus exposing women to the risk of an advanced diagnosis, when the possibilities of cancer the cure is much smaller:
“Our proposal causes public schools doctors to recommend the exam from the age of 40, with annual services. It is important to say that 22% of breast cancer deaths in Brazil occur in women under the age of 50. These data show how the disease can be aggressive in this age group and how early diagnosis is fundamental to reduce mortality in the country “, says Rosana.
In this scenario, other medical societies, such as the Brazilian College of Radiology (CBR) and the Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetric Associations (Febrasgo), support annual screening with mammography for women for 40 years.
“Mammographers, once a year and from 40 (years), are a public health measure that can have a positive impact on the su. The early diagnosis, after all, reduces costs with more complex and prolonged treatments, as well as reducing the demand for emergencies and surgery of greater complexity “, concludes Rosana, who is in the second mandate as a federal deputy and is president of the state manager of PL Mulher of Sao Paulo.
It inspires the transformation into the world of work, business, society. It is the creation of the compass, content and the connection agency.
