The girls were born on April 8, 2024, at the 36th week of gestation. Maeve’s diagnosis was given a few days later, bringing surprise and challenges to parents. “At the beginning there was a lot of trauma because it is not exactly what you expect,” Greenaway, father of the twins, confessed.
Despite the condition, the tests have confirmed that the child has no other health problems. Currently, Maeve receives a medical follow -up and will soon use a prosthesis for the eyes.
Living in Hertfordshire County in England, the family has made adaptations to help her daughter in development. Darrah describes Maeve as a beautiful, happy and full of life girl. For her, blindness will not be treated as taboo.
“What if he couldn’t see? He sees the world in a different way, but this does not necessarily mean that it is a bad thing. Maeve being blind, or your condition, will never be a taboo topic in our home. We will all learn Braille and it will only be a normal part of our life, “said the mother.” We don’t want her to feel that her condition will prevent her from doing anything, “he added.
From the diagnosis, the family has the support of driving charity and Macs, specialized in helping people with microftalmia, anophthalmia and eye coloboma. Maeve receives accompaniment to improve mobility and touch and in the future has support to learn Braille.
In order to expand the awareness of bilateral anophthalmia, Vince will participate in the 2025 London Marathon on April 27. It will run next to the sisters -in -law, Maddie and Chloe, to raise funds for Mac, contributing to multiple families to receive the necessary support.
