Consider a hotel with a heated pool, be flexible with your schedules, indulge in a lazy day and other valuable tips
The winter season in “Brasiloche” is in full swing and Felipe Augusto Marx (@ felipe.marx) was present from July 19th to 26th with his sons Henrique, 14, and Caetano, 11. The tips he brought are d pure gold. Take the opportunity to save and forward to someone you know that he is on the go.

“Pitacos of one who has just returned from Bariloche:
– In unstable times like when I went, it is impossible to have big plans ahead of time. Every day is a day, it will depend on the weather forecast. Don’t get frustrated with constantly changing plans. Have a checklist of the things you want to do (Cathedral, Piedras Blancas, Campanario, Circuito Chico etc.) and adapt according to the weather.
– Consider a hotel with a heated pool. If it’s a rainy day, there is simply nothing to do in town and the pool breaks down to keep the kids entertained.
– If you plan to fight in the snow, provide waterproof gloves. Cheap Decathlon gloves don’t (but have a dry and warm pair for the return of Cerro breaks)
– Sunrise at 9:00. Destroy the illusion of waking up at 7am, having breakfast and taking a walk around the city at 8am.
– Give yourself a lazy day – this story of skiing, sliding and walking in the snow is exhausting.
– In Piedras Blancas: be careful not to lose the glasses (the antiparras). My two children lost at once and the fine is steep. It is a pain, they fog up, but without them you cannot go down because the snow that falls, or that comes out of your feet, bothers your eyes too much.
– When renting clothes, consider a suspender for your pants – mine and the boys’ were falling out every day.
– When shopping for baby clothes, especially a second skin, try to buy different colors or find a way to clearly identify which is which. There will come a time when your suitcase will turn into a black clothes cake and every day will be a soap opera to find out who’s clothes are.
– The city is crowded, do not abuse the patience of those present. Choose what to eat before calling the waiter, watch out for the queue, be on time with transport, pay the rest in advance, stuff like that.
– For the same reason, exercise your tolerance. Food will not always arrive exactly how you want it. Just eat it, unless some weird kind of completely overcooked meat happens (it happened in Tony’s Parrilla).
– Be prepared for your flight delay. The return trip to Bariloche took half an hour.
– Explain to your children in detail the difference between a snowball and a snow stone. My nose still hurts today.
– Take reais, dollars or pesos to get something to eat at the airport. And be prepared for a ridiculous exchange rate at these establishments. Do not use the card.
– I don’t know if it was luck or not, but I solved all the tours with remis (their radio taxi, as there is no Uber), no need for a transfer. The hotel reception called and within 15 minutes he was at the door.
– If you are going to bring a backpack, make sure it is waterproof and / or always closed. There is a time when snow turns into rain and wets everything.
– Don’t try your luck with Western Union. There is a monthly transfer limit.
– Sometimes (sometimes) it’s worth challenging the predictions. I went to Cerro Catedral one morning when it was snowing a lot (and the recommendation was to stay in the city). It took almost an hour and a half to get there, but I took an empty lane with soft snow.
– I don’t even know if it was luck, but Piedras Blancas has fewer queues at the aerosillas (cable car) between mid and late afternoon (at 4pm the queue didn’t last 5 minutes). Consider bypassing rush hours, but combine well with return transport.
– If after Bariloche you continue your journey to another place before returning home, remember to keep your wet clothes VERY WELL so that they do not wet your leftover clean clothes (yes, here in Buenos Aires it is complicated …)
– If you are with children, consider that their memories will not be the same as yours. Sometimes an unhurried half-hour snow fight is worth more than running to see another beautiful landscape. “
