The “most Italian” cities in Brazil; What they have

During the formation of the Brazilian company, the announcement became essential, with the black, black and indigenous meeting, the original peoples. In addition, the arrival of immigrants in various regions has further strengthened the mix of peoples and cultures in the national territory. And some cities still have reflections of this immigration.

Among these are some colonized by Italians and they are real pieces of the European country on Brazilian soil. These cities are true tourist attractions due to architecture, cuisine and typically Italian traditions.

The first Italian immigrants began to arrive in Brazil in 1870, and in particular in the southern and south regions -eastern of the country, looking for better life opportunities. Many of them have started working on coffee crops and grape plantations.

The nineteenth century was marked by intense demographic expulsion in Europe. The high growth of the population, together with the rapid process of industrialization, has directly influenced job opportunities on that continent.

Located in the south of Santa Catarina, the city of Nova Venice has just over 13,000 inhabitants, according to the 2022 IBGE census.

Of these, 95% are descendants of Italians and children learn the language at school. It is similar and with the Italian province of Venice, being a legacy of the 400 families in the Veneto region who landed in the city in 1891.

Nova Venice even has an official gondola donated by the Italian government, which symbolizes the link between the two cities. It is located in Humberto Bortoluzzi Square and visitors can enjoy the ship and take photos on an artificial lake open to the public.
