Those who have first degree relatives who have already suffered from cerebral aneurysm should double their attention. Although this is not an exclusively hereditary condition, studies indicate that family history can significantly increase the risk of developing the disease.

According to the neurosurgeon, dr. Victor Hugo Espíndola, genetic predisposition, added to environmental factors, influences the emergence of aneurysms. “Genetic predisposition can contribute to the weakening of the wall of the blood vessels, which promotes the formation of aneurysms. When there are cases in the family, the risk becomes even bigger,” says the expert. Cerebral aneurysms are abnormal expansion in the brain arteries. When they break, they can cause a hemorrhagic stroke: serious and high risk for life.

Genetic influence on cerebral aneurysm

According to the expert, although there is no isolated gene identified as the cause of the disease, science already recognizes the genetic influence on the emergence of aneurysms, especially if associated with paintings such as hypertension, smoke, physical inactivity and use of drugs such as cocaine. “Arterial hypertension is one of the most frequent conditions among aneurysms patients. Therefore, keeping the pressure under control is essential for those who have family history,” he says.

The good news is that, with adequate follow -Up, it is possible to identify the presence of aneurysms before causing damage, with diagnostic tests that are angiotomography or angoresssonance. “In those with family history, in particular from the age of 30, we recommend a periodic evaluation with angiography to confirm the injury and treatment of treatment. The detection of an aneurysm before breaking can save human lives,” says neurosurgeon.

Signs and how to worry

According to dr. Victor Hugo Espíndola, most aneurysms do not show signs until the time of breakage. However, in some cases, symptoms such as sudden and intense headache may emerge, clouded vision, pain, difficulty of language or loss of strength on one side of the body. Given these signs, the recommendation is to urgently ask for medical assistance. “Every minute counts. Fasically the service is the service, the greater the possibilities of recovery,” he warns.

In addition to the follow -up medical, the lifestyle changes are fundamental in prevention. “Stop smoking, practicing physical activity, maintaining a balanced diet and control stress are attitudes that significantly reduce risks,” he says.

The expert also stresses that, for those who have a family history, monitoring must be constant. “Prevention begins with the knowledge of one’s body and attention to risk factors. With early diagnosis and healthy habits, it is possible to live with this predisposition without great fears,” he concludes.
