The former president of the United States in Joe Biden is diagnosed with prostate cancer

The disease is “aggressive” and has already spread to the bones; However, cancer seems to be sensitive to hormones, which allows effective treatment

Former President of the United States Joe Biden, 82 years old, was diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. The diagnosis was revealed on Sunday 18, through a declaration issued by his personal office.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was examined due to a new discovery of a prostate lump after having increased urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a 9 (grade 5 group 5) gleason score with bone metastases”, says the note.

“Although this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, cancer seems to be sensitive to hormones, which allows effective treatment. The president and his family are analyzing the therapeutic options with their doctors,” adds the text.

Prostate tumors receive a score called Gleason score, which measures, on a scale from 1 to 10, the appearance of cancer cells compared to normal cells. The cancer that marks 9 on this scale is therefore among the most aggressive.

When prostate cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it usually reaches bones and becomes more difficult to treat. However, when prostate tumors need hormones to grow, as in the case of biden, they could be susceptible to the treatment that deprives hormonal cancers.

Biden had had cancer before. Before taking the presidency, he suffered surgical interventions to remove different non -melanoma skin tumors and removed a cancerous injury from the chest in February 2023.

In the United States, prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second main cause of death for cancer among men, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). In 2022, Biden made the “mission on the moon against cancer” one of the priorities of his government, with the aim of halving the mortality rate for the disease in the next 25 years.
