Next Saturday, May 24, during the 20th Cultural Virada, the MASP (São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand Museum of Art) and Spcine organize a special film session in honor of Cacá Dieguesues.
The director, who died in February of this year, will be honored in three sessions that will take place in the new free MASP, between 18 hours and 22h40.
With the theme “20 years in 24 hours”, Virada Cultural 2025, through the secretariat of culture and creative economy, promises to be the largest in history, since it was held for the first time two decades ago. For this reason, on 24 and 25 May, there will be more than a thousand artistic shows, which is considered one of the greatest free cultural meetings of the southern hemisphere.
Outdoor cinema
“Five Times Favela” (1962) opens the Cacá Diegues special session, considered one of the fundamental works of Novo cinema in Brazil.
The film presents five stories, directed by several directors, such as the Samba school of Cacá Diegues, Joy of Living, on a young Sambista who takes the direction of a samba school a few months before the carnival, facing a series of challenges.
In the double of the first outdoor cinematographic session, the public also sees “God is Brazilian” (2003), where God finds himself tired of so many mistakes made by humanity and decides to make a holiday.

The third title of the night is “Better Days Will Anive” (1989), who tells the story of a voice actor who dreams of becoming Hollywood star. Among the confusions that lives, mixes imagination and reality and speaks with the actress of the American comedy who dubs and the ghost of a boyfriend who died young.
The latest film will be the classic “Bye Bye Brazil” (1979), considered one of the 100 best Brazilian films of all time by the Brazilian Association of Critics Critics. Salomé, Lord Gypsy and Andorinha are three theatrical artists of Mambembe who cross the country with the Rolidean caravan, performing shows in small places, in which the population still did not have access to television.
