
The percentage of women on corporate boards has increased from 13% in 2020 to 16% in 2021, according to a study by the 2021 Board of Directors of Korn Ferry, a global organization consulting firm.
Considering only the independent directors, the participation of women is higher, at 21%, while in 2020 it was already 18%.
According to the survey, a similar evolution is the female presence as C-level, which increased from 14% to 18% over the same period. As the number of women on company boards increases, there are more women with experience taking on board positions, Korn Ferry senior partner Jorge Maluf rated.
Gender equality in the highest positions
While the numbers show that companies in the country are still a long way from gender equality in the top positions, according to Maluf, companies are realizing they need to show society, investors, that they are taking a closer look at diversity issues. , effectively pushing this agenda forward: “Corporate governance committees have asked for it, and investors, even if they do not actively ask for it, are questioning themselves on the subject. Companies are building important diversity actions and the board needs to lead by example, ”she stressed.
Korn Ferry data also shows that the percentage of women on boards has increased or remained stable across all sectors and those with the most female presence are consumer goods (21%), infrastructure / utilities (21%) and technology / communication (20%).
