Well beyond aesthetics, weight loss should be a long -term project focused on physical and mental maintenance
Dr. Bruna Manes speaks of balance, science and awareness in the fight against obesity
Brazil faces a silent epidemic: obesity. The data of the report on the global obesity observatory reveal that over 30% of Brazilians live with obesity and over 68% are overweight. In Rio de Janeiro, the situation is even more critical: the capital of Rio de Janeiro leads the national ranking, with 65.2% of the overweight population. In San Paolo, 24.3% of adults are already considered obese and must lose weight.
According to the nutritionist and endocrinologist Bruna Manes, the life lifestyle of the body of the body and more accelerated, stressful and disconnected causes an increase in the number of people with overweight and obesity. “People are looking for quick solutions, but a healthy weight loss is not a connection: it is a process that provides mentality, routine and car -cure,” says the doctor.
The “fashion” of pens for weight loss and their risks
In recent years, the use of medicines injected to lose weight – popularly called “pens” – has become a fever in Brazil. Many people who want to lose weight faster have started watching semaglutado (present in drugs such as Ozepic and Wegovy), liraglutide (Saxenda, Vicloza) and, more recently, Tirzepatida (Mounjaro).
With caution, Dr. Bruna evaluates this movement and underlines the importance of follow -up medical in the use of these drugs. “These medicines are important allies, especially in the event of obesity or comorbidity such as type 2 diabetes, but not magical. If used without following, they bring important risks, such as loss of muscle mass, nutritional needs and even hair falls.”
The doctor explains that a very quick weight loss, especially without adequate guide, can cause hormonal imbalances and vitamins and essential mineral deficiencies, such as iron, zinc and biotin, compromising skin health, nails and hair.
“Losing accelerated weight without a correct replacement can lead to a significant hair loss. Furthermore, muscle loss reduces basal metabolism and makes it difficult to maintain a long -term weight.”
It also underlines that Anvisa requires the conservation of the prescription for the sale of these drugs, precisely with the aim of avoiding indiscriminate use and without professional supervision.
Body, mind and routine: the pillars of healthy weight loss
Much beyond medicines, Dr. Bruna stresses that health loss requires a full look to the body. “Balanced diet, regular physical activity, quality sleep and stress control are the basis of any effective treatment. There is no formula that replaces the well -made bases.”
The stress, according to the expert, plays a central role in difficulty in losing weight. “High cortisol, caused by chronic stress, favors the accumulation of fat, especially in the abdominal region. And the deprivation of sleeping sleeping the hormones of satiety, making the person feel more hungry and wants to consume caloric foods,” he explains.
Individualization and awareness: the key to lasting results
Dr. Bruna stresses that each person has a unique story, history and trajectory – and therefore the treatments must be individualized. “The food plan and the use of medicines should be customized, based on scientific tests, but also considering the lifestyle, emotions and habits of each patient. And always with the aim of promoting health, well -being and quality of life.”
Taking care of you is an act of responsibility
For the doctor, healthy weight loss is also a form of reconnection with your body and conscious choices. “When we start to hear, respecting the signs of the body and putting the car -but as priorities, the results appear -not only in balance, but at their disposal, self -esteem, physical and mental health.”
The easy promises do not solve the challenge of obesity in Brazil. But, as Dr. Bruna Manes claims, it is possible to face it with information, professional support and consistency, one step at a time.
