The 12 by 8 pressure is reclassified as a pre -investigation into a new guideline

Document with Guidance was released on Thursday 18, at the 80th Brazilian Cardiology Congress

Summary

The new Brazilian guideline has reclassified the blood pressure of 12 by 8 as a pre -investigation, aligning with the international standards presented in 2024.

The risk values for blood pressure in Brazil have been updated. According to a new guideline, approved by three medical companies, cardiologists should now consider numbers between 12 by 8 (120-139 mmhg systolical and/or 80-89 mmhg diastolics) as blood pressure at risk, classifying this track as a pre-investigation.

The document, prepared by the Brazilian companies of cardiology, nephrology and hypertension, was issued on Thursday 18, to the 80th Brazilian Cardiology Congress. Interestingly, these numbers take into account the measurement of the pressure made in the office, by a specialist.

Arterial hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic disease characterized by high levels of blood pressure in the arteries, according to the Ministry of Health. Until then, the risk considered should be between 121 and 139 mmhg and diastolic pressure (minimum) between 81 and 89 mmhg.

However, for arterial hypertension remains the same or greater than 140 and/or 90 mmHg or 14 per 9. Also measured in the office.

The new diagnostic criteria are in line with the international guidelines issued to the European Cardiology Congress in September 2024.
