Resident couple of San Paolo, Jean and Mayara have moved social networks after the arrival of a new family member. The duo is deaf and now divides the apartment with Zoki, a puppy of less than a year, which does not listen to too. Now teach the Libras commands for the new pet, which has been learned some of the signs to “sit”, “go to bed” and “eat” with a few days.

The story of Zoki begins when he was still called Cotton at the Elisha Institute of Santos on the coast of San Paolo and a video in which he appears viralized. In recording, a boy seems to blow slightly on the puppy’s puppy to wake him up without fear.

Zoki’s deafness is a condition that is generally common in animals with heterocromia -body or cooking of the body with a variation of the color of an iris or other parts of the body

With the web moved, it was a matter of time until Zoki was adopted. However, the institute wanted to find tutors able to provide him with a good adaptation. The profile requested came from a mature couple who had the patience to face the peculiarities of an animal with hearing problems.

But the affinity between the puppy and the new tutors has exceeded the expectations of the institute. The information technology professional Jean Fenato, 36, says that he and his wife, 33 years old Mayara Mangolin, had no intention of adopting a pet at that moment. When they came across the dog’s history on social networks, they changed their mind.

They made contact with the institute and went to Santos to continue with the adoption process. “Many people didn’t want to adopt him to be deaf, then my heart said aloud,” says Jean. Back to San Paolo, the couple started betting on communication in Libras with Zoki, using the body and, in particular, the hands, to communicate commands and guidelines.

“We are adapting very quickly, because we already understand how it is deaf. We must have more patience with him and we have to repeat several times. Our strategy is simple: it is repeating the signs until learning and hit. So let’s give a snack as a reward. This is important because it is important because it is a communication of the signs, as with the deaf community”, explains Jean.

Zoki is able to encourage deafness

Tackling the challenge of creating a puppy he does not listen has become more natural for his experience with the deafness of Jean and Mayara. “What has changed is responsibility, love, empathy … makes us happier and the house is no longer silent because it is noisy of good energy,” he continues. According to the couple, Zoki learned commands such as “sit”, “deckhobile”, “wait” and “stop”.

Leila Abreu, president of the Elisha Institute, an entity that welcomed the animal, says that Zoki came to her after the ex tutor has given up taking care of him. At the time, the woman would have mistakenly affirmed that she had found him on the street, says Leila. The team suspected history and, when he noticed heterocromia, he performed tests that confirmed deafness.

During the assessments, he realized that the puppy did not react to any kind of sound, but woke up with a simple blow to the muzzle-se

“We realized that he did not really react to metal sounds, under the voice, to closed sounds. And when he lying to sleep, that he was completely off, you could hit a pan on his side that did not wake up”, recalls the president of the institute.

The lack of experience with a pet was not a problem, says Leila. “They have never had a dog, they have no experience with dogs, but they understand the difficulty of communicating and not being able. So I was sure they would have all patience in the world with this animal,” he adds.
