Following The Good Wife (and its spin-offs The Good Fight and Elsbeth), Bull and All Rise, American channel CBS has launched a new legal series in 2024 with Matlock, which will air on M6 on 18 October.
Feminized overload
If the name of the series sounds familiar to you, it’s no coincidence, as it’s a reboot of the 80s show that originally aired on NBC, then ABC across the Atlantic, and ran for nine seasons.
In this new version, Matlock is no longer a man (Andy Griffith at the time), but a woman, seven-year-old Madeline “Mattie” Matlock to be exact, who after leaving a brilliant career decides to return to a prestigious law firm. He uses his cautious, go-anywhere attitude and cunning to win deals.
Oscar-winning actor
In the role of this somewhat unique lawyer we find Kathy Bates, an Oscar winner for her memorable (and terrifying) performance in Misery, adapted from the Stephen King novel. The actress, who can also be seen in Dolores Claiborne and Titanic, is not in her first TV series. Also a winner of 2 Golden Globes and 2 Emmy Awards, he notably credits another legal series, Harry’s Law, as well as several seasons of American Horror Story.

Kathy Bates in “Misery”
Joining Kathy Bates in Matlock is Skye P. Marshall, who plays Olympia, a seasoned attorney with a thirst for justice and success. As Matt struggles to find his place in this new, high-stakes world, he works alongside the firm’s young recruits, including the charismatic Billy (David Del Rio) and the ambitious Sarah (Lea Lewis).

The reboot of Matlock, created by Jenny Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin), actually shares a title with the famous 80s series.
